iBeam Materials Receives Follow-on Funding from Samsung Ventures
iBeam pioneering large-area monolithic integration for microLED displays
SANTA FE, NM, July 27, 2020 – iBeam Materials, Inc., (“iBeam”) the world leader in breakthrough ion-beam crystal alignment processes for the manufacture of high-performance GaN-based opto-electronic devices on a variety of substrates (GANOX), announced today that lead investor Samsung Venture Investment Corporation (“Samsung Ventures”) has followed their original July 2019 funding with an additional investment position in iBeam. iBeam is one of a select few companies globally attracting Samsung Ventures’ strategic investments in the microLED space.
“iBeam’s compelling technology has motivated Samsung Ventures’ continued support and they look forward to further breakthroughs in our game-changing, low-cost approach to microLED displays. This additional investment by Samsung Ventures helps us to continue our push forward with this new manufacturing paradigm” said Vladimir Matias, Founder & CEO of iBeam Materials.
Gallium Nitride (GaN) based LEDs, the foundation of the LED lighting and display revolutions, and GaN HEMTs (High Electron Mobility Transistors) are traditionally manufactured on rigid, single-crystal wafers, restricting size, cost reduction and thermal management. In contrast, iBeam’s technology promises to deliver both lower cost and thermal resistance for GaN devices fabricated over larger areas than ever before possible, including enabling roll-to-roll manufacturing capability.

About iBeam Materials
iBeam Materials is disrupting the display, lighting and wearable electronics industries by creating new game-changing product categories based on epitaxial GaN (Gallium Nitride) devices grown on non-single crystal substrates (GANOX) using ion-beam assisted deposition (IBAD). Located in Santa Fe, NM, and founded in 2011, iBeam is a spin-out from Los Alamos National Laboratory. iBeam has collaborated with Sandia National Labs and the University of New Mexico under a DOE ARPA-E Project to demonstrate epitaxial GaN devices on non-single crystal substrates using their proprietary and patented processes.
iBeam specializes in the use of an ion-beam technology for crystal alignment of thin layers providing for high-performance low-cost semiconductor devices on a variety of large-area substrates.
